Intermediate Piano This 60-minute piano class is designed for the advancing intermediate pianist. Students are evaluated and grouped by ability as they work in the partner-group atmosphere. Students are given musical concepts and elements necessary for the intermediate pianist in the development of musical literacy and essential keyboard skills. A balance of repertoire from the Baroque period up to the present day puts students in contact with influential compositional styles of all periods. In this way students prepare to formulate their own musical tastes based upon knowledge and understanding. Emphasis continues to be placed on creativity through variation and composition; analysis and music theory; a good, responsive piano technique; and a solid, musical performance of repertoire. Class size limited to five. Advanced Piano The advanced student continues a systematic study of music from all periods including Baroque, Classic, Romantic, Contemporary - including various styles such as Jazz, Rock, Pop, Gospel etc. Students are able to quickly analyze pieces in terms of harmonic configuration, melodic and rhythmic patterns, and formal design, as part of a logical, intelligent learning process. This leads to a satisfying study where the emphasis is on a good interpretation of the music and the immediate personal pleasure of performance. Both partner and group format are planned. Class size limited to five. |
Piano Programs for ages 5 & up |
| Piano Class - ages 5 & up This piano class is the perfect blend of games, activities and musical learning. Children come to the piano ready to play the songs they've learned to sing, move & love! As always, the key ingredients are singing, listening, playing instruments, lots of movement, and tonal and rhythm patterns. Through echoing patterns, the children will build a vocabulary of musical phrases which they can recognize aurally and visually, which leads to an understanding of musical notation. Class size is limited to only 4-6 students, giving us the best of enhanced group learning with individualized instruction. Sight reading and musician skills are enhanced by participating in ensembles, improvisation and group activities. Each student plays on their own state of the art digital piano. Music reading is approached both aurally and visually through games & activities. We'll be drumming the beat, jumping the music alphabet and playing pitched instruments such as the glockenspiel, xylophone & boomwhackers. All our activities and games are designed to involve the whole child and be fun. Practice time at home is around 10-15 minutes a day for beginners and includes listening to music on their CD, drumming out rhythms, playing games and creating their own songs Our year-long reward program provides the motivation to gradually learn the discipline of practice. Several performance opportunities are provided throughout the year, including a Holiday party, Beat the Blues Jam and a Spring Recital. Tuition: $90 per month.
